Not sure how many of you have followed the drama with Queensryche and Geoff Tate over the last year or so, but it has been something. Queensryche is one of those cult bands that always stayed just under the radar until they exploded with 'Empire' and more specifically off of said album, the track "Silent Lucidity" the propelled them to the top. Since then they parted ways with Chris DeGarmo, lead guitars, but carried on. Album after album seemed to stray away with that Queensryche sound. Tate has increasingly suffered from lead singer syndrome and has completely lost his mind. Eventually the band had enough and booted him. Tate furious started his own "Queenryche" band which released a terrible album, 'Frequency Unknown' which was released raw and unmixed. The label has since reissued it fully mixed. In the meantime, the true Queensryche band pushed forward with new singer Todd LaTorre from Fate's Warning. LaTorre has that classic progressive/power/symphonic metal vocal. He instantly made you feel like Tate who. Go watch YouTube clips of the band live playing old songs. If you didn't know Tate wasn't singing out wouldn't know. The new album, goes back to the Rage-Empire era. LaTorre makes you feel it's Queensryche without compromising his own sound, style. Solid, solid, solid album. Reviews everywhere show 5 stars, 8 out of 10, 10 out of 10. For me, it's right in the discussion for album of the year.
