He "came down" a long, long, long, long, long time ago. Canada just wouldn't fucking let it go.

He's won one tournament in the last SEVEN YEARS. And that was 4 years ago.

One tournament in seven years. Stephen Ames has more than that.

I get it, Weir won the Masters and that was really cool here in Canada. But that was one week and one tournament. Strip that away, and no one would care about his career.

Infact, take away winning the Masters, and the thing Mike Weir would be most remembered for is the truly magnificent collapse in the Canadian Open a few years ago.

Sorry, the Mike Weir love affair bothers me. I get tired of having to mention him over actual golf stars because we live in Canada and he won a tournament eight years ago.

That said, he's a nice guy, personable, and I'm glad it was him that won it instead of Ames because he's the one that could handle the media better.

I think I've said this before, it just bothers me that when I listen to the FAN 590 or whatever, and I'm listening to a golf update, I have to hear where Mike Weir is, because you CANNOT, in Canada, do a golf story and not mention Mike Weir in it, at the expense of hearing where actual golf stars are(say Martin Kaymer, current World #1 for instance).

So instead of the update guy being able to say something along the lines of :

"Blah blah blah has a two shot lead after shooting 6 under par in the opening round. He's followed closely on the leaderboard by Martin Kaymer, Bubba Watson and others."

    it's this :

"Blah blah blah has a two shot lead after shooting 6 under par in the opening round. Mike Weir is well off the pace after an opening round 78."

As a journalist, which is more compelling?

Except not everyone listening to the radio is a 'journalist' like yourself. Mike Weir is probably the only connection most people have to the PGA Tour. He shares common ground with this whole country because of his nationality. Sure, he's been terrible the last few years, but the guy is still playing on the tour and so people are naturally going to be curious how the Canadian contingent are doing.

If you want to complain about golf broadcasting, I suggest you watch a Golf Channel/NBC production of a PGA Tour event. The Europeans get absolutely no coverage, while the Americans are king.

Was trying to keep it low under the wind and hit a draw. Didn't come off and hit a fat hook 122 yards. Was pretty funny. You don't see it often at all from anyone.

So who is everyone going with to win?

    I'm going with Hunter Mahan.

If Phil can keep the ball in the fairway, he has to be the favourite. My buddy who runs a masters pool is doing it a little differently this year. Usually it's pick 4 golfers and whoever's group makes the most money wins. This year, he has 20 different boxes. I;ve submitted two entries, one with Tiger as the top dog and the other with KAymer. Mickelson is my wildcard on both.

I like the Watney pick dawinna, he's been playing some excellent golf this year and had some great results in the majors last year.

I don't think Hunter will pull it off. I don't think his short game is good enough.

That would be my concern with Mahan too. I also like the Watney pick.

My usual pool that I do (not this year), you pick 14 golfers. You need at least 8 to make the cut, and then you just take the collective score.

I see that Ian Poulter had some comments about Tiger's game - if he's not a threat anymore, why go out of your way to say it? He's the kind of guy that seems to feed off of that.

If you want in my buddys pool, let me know and I'll send you the entry form. It's $10/pool and you can enter as many as you want. Deadline's tonight at 7 pm though.

Poulter was asked if Woods would finish top 5. He said no.. I don't see the problem really!

Poulter is a douche bag, I'm sure he was being more of an ass than anything.

I also know how big of a prick Poulter is. It's no secret the European players don't like Tiger even before his incident, the only reason they bite their tongue is because Tiger is the one who exposes golf to make them more money.

I'm sure he was taking a snip at Tiger. Which I have no problem with.

Wasn't it Poulter who made the derogatory comments about Woods right after the scandal last year? Something to the effect that he wished he never introduced Woods to Elin in the first place.

Right now Woods cant piece together 3 sub par rounds in any given tourney let alone 4 so untill he does that he wont contend.

I like Luke Donald this week with Aaron Baddely as a dark horse.

Donald won the par 3 today, know one has ever won the par 3 then gone onto win The Masters, but I guess he could always be the 1st.

She was Jesper Parnevik's nanny if that's what you're referring to. He was the one who introduced them.
