View Full Version : 2014 - 2015 NHL Trades

With the deadline coming up, I'm sure we'll be seeing some activity heat up. IN the meantime, here are some ridiculous ones that ended up being not.

Example:

Carey Price, Max Pacioretty, a first-round pick, and either Subban or Ryan McDonagh for Vincent Lecavalier

Ducks just traded Devante Smith-Pelly to the Habs for Jiri Sekac.

I hate to say it, but that is a nice trade for the Habs.

Good trade for sure. DSP is a bottom-six player though, let's not overrate him.

Odd trade. Does it address a need for either team?

DSP is more physical, Sekac is more skill. So I think it helps both. Good old fashioned hockey trade.

DSP is a perfect bottom 6 payer. He hits lots which you need in the payoffs.

I've got the feeling the ducks acquired Sekac to play with Getz and Perry. Maroon is good but he's not 1st line material. He's better on the 2nd or 3rd line.

Toronto trades Winnik to Pittsburgh for Zach Sill plus 2nd-round pick in 2016 and 4th-round pick in 2015. Leafs retain 50% of Winnik's contract.

Carolina trades Tlusty to Winnipeg for a 2016 3rd-round pick and a 2015 conditional 6th-round pick.

Friedman is saying Sekera to LA. He says 1st rounder and a prospect for Sekera.

Edit: Roland McKeown is the prospect LA is sending to the Canes. He was the 1st player I thought of when they said a prospect was in this deal. He's a solid D-man for Kingston in the OHL. Some thought he might have gone late in the 1st round last year.

Saw this one coming. Glad I picked up Sekera as my #4 dman when Vatanen went on the IR now!
Wonder if he plays with Doughty?

two24four

Not sure if he'll play with Doughty, if he does that pickup is even better. Sekera likes to move the puck as well.

They are saying it's a 1st this season if LA makes the playoffs, if not it's a 1st for next year. Smart by the Kings.

Mike Futa is the King co-director of amateur scouting for the Kings. He was the GM of the Owen Sound Attack who Sekera played for. I assume he hand a hand in bringing Sekera over to the Kings.

While Franson is better offensively, Sekera is a better all around defenseman, doesn't surprise me he got more.

Already been a lot of trades with 3 days left till the deadline. Monday's 8 hour trade shows are either going to be really good if teams keep it up right through, or really boring because they are all done by then.

NYR are deep into discussions to acquire defenceman Keith Yandle from ARI but it's reportedly not done yet. If it gets done, it will be big.

ARI will want Anthony Duclair and a first-round pick if they're to give up Yandle. #TradeCentre

This would be a great trade for Arizona if they get Duclair and a 1st. They already have some top prospects in Max Domi, Henrik Samuelsson, Christian Dvorak, Brendan Perlini. They are also looking at a top 3 pick right now this year with their own pick.

Duclair, Moore and a 1st for Yandle, plus Yotes retain 50% of Yandle's salary.

Very nice return for Arizona. Domi and Duclair played together for Canada at the World Jr's on the same line which was the top line in the tourney.. The 1st is next years as Tampa has the this years Rangers 1st.

Rangers don't have a 1st this year, now they don't have one next year, and Duclair as Damien Cox just said. That's a lot to give up in a few trades.

Wow, solid deal for both sides IMO. NYR going for it this year. Maybe a slight overpayment for Yandle IMO, but with them seemingly trying to make a serious run this yr with this move, and ARI keeping some of Yandle's salary, it's a solid move for them IMO, assuming Yandle fits in with their style.

ARI will have a damn solid young team in a few yrs if they can develop all of these kids properly and not push them into roles they're not ready for too early.

Edit: is the 1st for the upcoming draft?

No it's next years 1st, Tampa has the Rangers 1st this year from the St. Louis/Callaghan deal. Arizona now has two 1st's this year and next year.

If Arizona does this the right way, with the prospects they already have, and the ones they are still going to get they could be a beast in a few years. They did a good thing sending Domi back to Jr the last two years.

Man if they get one of McDavid or Eichel this year with their pick watch out.

That's how you do a rebuild.

boredguy

Deal now includes some nobody from Ari and their 2015 4th for the Rags 2015 2nd. That's close to what i thought they'd get with the salary retention.

Rocklobster

The Dallas Stars have traded Erik Cole and a conditional third round pick to the Detroit Red Wings for prospects Mattias Backman, Mattas Janmark and a 2nd round pick in 2015.

Not sure how I feel about this... aside from veteran experience, not sure what else Cole really brings to the table these days that other players in the system wouldn't bring. I feel like this is an insurance move more than anything, with Helm getting injured yesterday. Seems to be a bit of a steep price to pay for an insurance type of guy who will most likely just be a rental, but maybe Helm is expected to be out for a while.

edit: the more analysis I read on this deal, the more I like it. Still seems a little bit much to give for a rental, but with Helm potentially out a while and Franzen out until who-the-hell-knows-when, I now see more of a benefit to making this deal. Also, I originally thought Backman was a stronger prospect than he currently appears to be, but sounds like he was a healthy scratch fairly often in Grand Rapids and is back playing in Europe. The other prospect doesn't seem to be particularly promising either, but losing the 2nd round pick hurts, given the players they've been able to draft in the 2nd round recently.

I guess I'm okay with it now, all things considered. I'll have no issue with it whatsoever if he's a positive factor in the playoffs.

My like for promoting Hextall to GM has changed to love. How he got anything close to this value for Coburn is amazing. I don't care how late the 1st rounder is:

Coburn is headed to the Tampa Bay Lightning in a deal in which the Flyers are receiving Tampa Bay's 2015 first round and third round draft picks plus defenseman Radko Gudas, who had season-ending knee surgery in January. Okay... Buffalo still needs to find a way to acquire a real #1 netminder at some point. Not a bad move, though, as it gets a pick... wonder what the condition on it is, though.

I know (though it'd be pretty hard for any team other than EDM to catch them for last place right now, I think). It's a concern for the future, though.

Arizona is falling back fast, they've lost 9 in a row and no longer have Yandle as well. Just 4 points up on Buffalo.

Phaneuf trade will be easier in the offseason, i'd also see them rather taking a cap dump back then retaining salary, it's a long contract.
