Ok we are just under two years away from the 2014 Olympics in Russia. If and it's a big if the NHL sends it's players.

So if you had to pick the team you cheer for at the Olympics today, who's on it?

Here is who I would like to see on Canada as of today.

Goal.

Fleury, Luongo, Price.

Defence.

Weber, Keith, Pietrangelo, Doughty, Seabrook, M. Staal, Letang/Del Zotto.

Forward

Crosby (if healthy) Getzlaf, Perry, Bergeron, Stamkos, Giroux, Sharp, Tavares, Toews, Nash, Eberle, Benn, E. Staal.

I wanted to add St. Louis, Iginla Thornton and Boyle but they are getting up in age. I also wanted to add J. Staal for his play in his own zone. I came close to adding Hartnell and Lucic. Neal was close as well. Spezza is still not good enough in his own zone.

I'd put Spezza on the team. Hes an awsome skater and the team needs good skaters on the big, international ice. This should be Yzerman's focus ---> Speed & Skill. I'd put Matty Duchene on the squad too for the same reasons. I'd scratch Eberle and Sharp for those two. Im not sold on Benn either.

For D, I don't think Seabrook will make it. I know this isnt a popular choice but id take PK Subban over him.

Goalies are fine and should have no excuses in net.

That is the first time I have ever heard someone say "awsome skater" when talking about Spezza.

Spezza's not a good skater at all.

I'd go with:

Crosby, Perry, Stamkos, Getzlaf, M. Richards, Giroux, Eberle, Hall, Seguin, Duchene, E. Staal, Toews.

Keith, Pietrangelo, Letang, Doughty, Weber, Seabrook, Franson, Hamhuis.

Fleury, Price, Luongo.

Has nothing to do with it at all, I have watched Spezza play since he was 15 years old as an underager with Brampton in the OHL, his two weakest links have always been his skating and his play in his own zone.

I'd guess 2 years from now both Nugent Hopkins and Seguin will be no brainers

I could be wrong but I think Myers has to play for Canada now, after already leaving the US program to play for Canada at the World Jr's a few years back. I think you can only change once.

Ah right my mistake.

Forgot Kesler, edited original post.

I don't think Myers ever played for Team USA, so he could still switch if he wanted. I don't think he will.

Ouch. I hope to god our blue line isn't so thin that we need to have Carle on the team... (I'm assuming Liles and Gardiner are homer picks for you)

Liles and Gardiner are both homer picks but pretty reasonable at the same time. They're both quick, smooth skating defensemen, that you need on the bigger ice surface. For that reason I wouldn't be including Orpik, or Byufglien (mainly cause he can't play defense).

Yeah, I only put Byfuglien there as a PP qb (his shot is intense). Orpik is a great defensive specialist with experience from the last Olympics and brings the hitting that the blue line would otherwise be lacking. From what I've seen of Liles, he seemed to only be able to play half the game well at any given time. That is, if he was playing offense well, his defensive play was pretty bad, and vice versa. Gardiner is incredibly unproven right now and impossible to project as a possible Olympian so soon in my opinion. I doubt anyone with less experience than Carlson makes the defense roster, anyway.

Liles is a better d-man then I thought he was when the Leafs traded for him, he's almost always in the right position in his own end. His speed helps him get back into the play when he goes in deep on defence. He's a great QB on the PP as well.

Team Sweden.

Goal: Lundqvist, Gustavsson, Backstrom.

Defence: Karlsson, Edler, Kronwall, Ekman-Larsson, Enstrom, Hedman Gunnarsson, Larsson/Oduya.

Forwards: Sedin, Sedin, Eriksson, Zetterberg, Franzen, Backstrom, Landeskog, Johansson, Stalberg, Hornqvist, Berglund, Hagelin, Samuelsson.

I'm sure I left a player or two off. Also again like some players on Canada I left Lids, Holmstrom and Alfie off because of age.
