What sites are good to get fantasy hockey rankings? Not having much luck.

You could pay for them.:p NHL.com, Dobber, a blocked out site (lol) and then there the guy that was here the past couple years (was it capgeek associated?) He had some type of formula or somthing where you punched in you league stats and it gave you a revised list everytime. I personally listen to the guys on this board and rread (just a little) about prospects. Heres the list from nhl.com and it isnt any better than Y! imo (oh wait....maybe thats where they get their eligibility from )

But they don't have a new set of projections up for the 2011-2012 season yet.

Whoa, when did Dobber become some all encompassing "network" comprising a bunch of websites.

Wait a sec, so I have to pay for everything this year (frozen pool, HPG projections, etc)!?! Blasphemy.

FP, yes. Kind of a buzz kill, but I guess one has to pay to "keep the lights on." There is still a part of HPG that is gratis, I think.

Dobber's list is worth every penny IMO.

hockey pool geek is also worth the annual fee if you play in a few money leagues!

But he only projects G, P, PIM, W, SO. I'd like to see projections on the rest of the stats, even if its just a statistical exercise based on the past with some manual tweaks. I've done this before but not sure if I'll have time this year.

Hey guys, I felt my ears burning so here I am! :)

Simple rankings on www.hockeypoolgeek.com remain and will always be free. Got to get you hooked somehow!

Just for clarity, we're not projections experts, we're analysis and strategy experts, so we're not doing projections this year. Instead, we use Dobberhockey's projections as an input to our analysis engine, though we also use a player's numbers over the past couple seasons to fill out the rest of the stats that Dobber doesn't project on a rationalized basis. For example, using Dobber's G projection and a player's average shooting % over the past two years we come up with shots, and we project hits on a per-game basis, etc, etc.

The rankings are really just the tip of the iceberg though - the Draft Guru will give you a serious edge on draft day, the trade analyzer will help you make sure you're getting the right fit for your team, etc, etc.

If you haven't checked out the site, please do. When you register you get a free 24-hour trial (http://www.hockeypoolgeek.com/register) that gives you full functionality on the site (save Dobber's projections... can't give those away for free!) so you can see for yourself what it can do.

Hope this helps.

PS: the free trial requires email confirmation, so if a message doesn't appear in your inbox pretty promptly, check your spam filter!

HPG I wrote you a message via your website but haven't heard back. Ignore that if you can answer it here.

What stats at the core of your service does Dobber directly project?
What exactly do you use for the other stats...average of last 3 years, 2 years, some moving average, etc?
Can you download the projection data into an excel format? i.e. so I can export the projections, do some tweaks, and re-import.

Don't worry, I'm 99% going to buy instead of hacking this together myself, I just want to know what kind of data is driving the output. You've got a fantastic model, but its output is only as good as its input. Just want an idea of input...

Hey Skate or Die,

I sent you a response back on September 8th at 3:03pm. Did it never come through?

We use a 2-year running average for the background stats that go with the "core" stats projected by Dobberhockey, as I described below. Dobber projected G, A, P, PIM. The rest come from those averages and rational thought. :)

Some stats make more sense to project on a per-game basis (things like hits, blocks, for example) whereas others as composites (SOG coming from G and shooting %).

And yes, you can download the projections as a CSV file to mess with them yourself.

Hope this helps.

Not sure how "good" they are, but the price is right.
