The Caps finished 4 points ahead of the Bolts in the regular season. The Caps won 4 of 6, but both Bolt's victories were shut outs. The Caps scored 19 goals to the Bolts 10.

I reckon the Caps will win in 6.

Keep in mind, 2-1-1 with Roloson in net, scoring was 7-6 Tampa because 1 goal was a shootout goal. Ellis/Smith both allowed 6 goals in their losses.

I like our chances, but I'm happy enough we made it this far. I picked Washington in 7.

Caps in 5. I just didn't see anything besides good goaltending to take forward from round one for TB. Caps finally learned how to play playoff hockey.

Don't get too cocky now. Pens 3-1, lose the series! Happens often enough, I think?

Ahhh... Go Bolts. Rooting for you fuckers out of the East, mostly b/c I am such a huge St.Louis fan and also I wanna see my depleted team beaten by the best! Uhm, also b/c I really hate Ovie & Steckle and the rest of those Washington Crapitals hahaha. Enjoy the win now. Lotta hockey to be played!

I have game 6 tickets but at this point I'm hoping I don't get to go.

Trying to figure if Tampa is that good or if Washington just sucks

Either way, Tampa wins most of the scrums and Washington looked like they could have played 2 more periods at the end of that game and still wouldn't have scored

Ning will be a tough out in the conference finals, Caps are cooked.

Kyle
05-04-2011, 06:12 AM
Its a mix of both. Tampa Bay hasn't been spectacular. But they've really capitalized on their chances and have found legit, championship-winning bursts of energy in important moments. The Caps could've easily won any of the 3 games. They haven't been that bad. I actually respect these losses more than their last two playoff outings tenfold. This is still a series. Washington can win 3 vs TB.

Crazy. I'll be shocked if Bodreau is coaching the Caps next season.
Sweep might work against the Lightning, if they gotta wait 8 or 9 days to play again like the Wings did it could sap a lot of the momentum they just built up.

If Boston sweeps, will we get right into it? Or is there still a break?

I was wondering the same thing, and would rather it keep going.

I'd bet on at least one of these three things happening in the offseason:
1. Bruce Boudreau fired
2. George McPhee fired
3. Ovechkin loses the C

So do we start the Dale Hunter as the next coach of the Caps rumors now or later?

BB is gone, it won;t take long either, I bet we hear of that in the next week......I think McPhee stays and Laich if signed should be the captain with OV an A....

Tough call on McPhee. On 1 hand, they have been a very successful regular season team. On the other hand, they have 1 Cup appearance and no titles. It is very rare for a non title winning GM to get the opportunity to hire that many coaches (it would be 5 if BB is fired and he stays) without his head being on the chopping block at some point. It is interesting to note that the current Caps owner isn't the guy that hired him so there is no loyalty in that regard.

Woot woot....love them Bolts. I reeally couldnt stand behind Rolly but after hearing those chants alot of people obviously are. Stevie Y back where he belongs....so soon. Amazing. I love alot of guys on this team. Vinny, Mighty Mouse, Malone, Stammer and of course Downie. Good Luck next round....the layoff might not hurt as much if the other team also has one.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if nothing changed on the Caps this summer.

Boudreau is a wild card coach. His team is either on fire or looking lost. If anything changes, it'll be him. But I wouldn't be terribly surprised to see him stay either. The call for his job isn't nearly as loud here as the wider hockey media seems to think it is -- at least not that I've seen. I remember calls for Ruff's firing in Buffalo being a lot louder a few years ago than the calls for Boudreau now.

I don't think McPhee is going anywhere. Everyone down here seems to think he's not doing a bad job of building a team, especially with AO as the centerpiece.

Laich staying in Washington is probable, but I don't see him getting the C. AO will likely hold on to it even if Boudreau is replaced.

Lightning sweep!! Lots to love about the Tampa Bay Lightning, their organization, their management and the way they're playing hockey. Coming into the series everyone saw TB as the underdog but I just did not see that. WSH is a division rival and yes they have struggled against them in the reg. season but in a 7 game playoff series I knew they could beat the Caps. And Lightning win without Kubina or Gagne in the lineup for game 3 and 4 which was no small loss by any means.

Simply put, theres more grit, leadership, determination and all the other little intangibles you must have in order to be successful in the Stanley Cup playoffs...Tampa Bay has that. Washington, not so much, as year after year, disappointment after disappointment has proven. I mean I would have rather faced WSH in the 1st round than any other team that made the playoffs...even better that TB got'em in the 2nd round. That WSH squad is just not built for playoff hockey. Boudreau leaving isn't the answer. I don't know what is, really. Lightning win without Kubina or Gagne in the lineup for game 3 and 4.

I do not believe the Lightning will beat Boston(no way they give up a 3-0 lead to PHI 2 years in a row). Bruins play a rough and tumble style of hockey and Chara has always given our big guns fits over the years. But hey, anything is possible...either way one of my two favorite teams is heading to the Stanley Cup final, either Boston or TB...and I hope its TB! :D

If the Bruins do make it past Philly (for obvious reasons I am not convinced yet, lol) i do not relish the idea of facing this tampa club one little bit.

But I got to thinking last night....vinny....marty....stamkos....great supporting cast....was it really just spotty goaltending holding this team back previously?

I honestly don't know much of their defense, outside of hedman being a minute muncher.

I agree....i think they get beat up a little. Whether its enough to change the outcome remains to be seen. Also have to say im pulling for BOS cuz it helps my pool but would not be all that upset to see the Bolts in the final.
