He's someone to snag if you have a roster spot in a keeper where you keep a lot of guys. If he re-signs with Pitts in the summer, he could be ok next year.
He'll suck this year still, so I'd say only grab him in deep keeper leagues.

That's what I thought!!! Is Murray that big of a joke? I hate the Sens, but a 7th rounder? Makes no sense. Guarantee he could have got a 3rd/4th rounder at the deadline.

I agree a 7th rounder was a little low considering the price of other players traded in similar fashion... Ruutu for a 6th... Mara for a 5th... Voros for a 7th... However you must remember. Kovalev hasn't done a whole lot in the past two years and having such a price tag really really hurts his value. Even if it's only $1,236,559 for the rest of this season, I think at best Murray could have fetched a 5th here.

very nice back to pittsburgh and then call it a career.

Useless until Crosby comes back, but Neal-Crosby-Kovalev would be a sick line.

...maybe this trade means that Crosby is closer than PIT leads on to.

I like to think that he'll be back before the end of the season. He's collecting dust on my IR.

if the pens get past the 1st round and Kovalev plays 50% of the games then it turns into a 6th rounder.....i know....much better

Kovy has actually had a pretty solid run of games here in Feb. I grabbed him about a week ago in my dynasty league. In anticipation of him being traded to Pitt and also b/c he has been potting some goals lately. Ride the hot hand right?

Def. a steal for the Pens on this one.

Kovalev Staal Neal ? For now ?

Clear salary dump.

Perhaps Ottawa wants to clear some cap space to bring someone in, or they just want to get another million dollars off the books.

Whether they get a 5th or a 7th is just semantics. Murray found a taker and jumped at it. Can you blame him? Probably not a big market for a guy who isn't exactly known for his playoff performance.

Shows you how low Kovalev's value is around the league.

A little surprising he went for so little, but he was lackluster in Ottawa, and did have a NTC, so it was probably a case of, he chose where he wanted to go, Murray took whatever to send him there. Though on some level it feels like Murray thinks there's a rule that each trade needs to get you less and less. Phillips for a 2014 8th on the way?

Starting to really worry about Murray though. This is the guy that brought the Russian 5 to Detroit and set the stage for Bowman to tweak and finish. Now Heatley, Kovalev out Michalek/Cheechoo 7th round in also couldn't trade Brian Lee. Heatley basically screwed him and not like Kovalev was a hot commodity.

Edit my bad actually Jim Devellano gets credit for the russian 5. Larianov, Fedorov, Kozlov, Fetizov, Konstantinov. Brian Murray what have you done lately?

I think Kovalev in Pitts is not a bad move for fantasy teams but I wouldn't be surprised if he is only so so.

Is 10-14 points for Kovy down the stretch too much to ask for ? Pretty sure Pitt has about 20 games remaining.

Bryan Murray only built a Stanley Cup winning team in Anaheim...that's all.

Kovalev fucking sucks. Nobody was going to pay higher than what Pittsburgh did for a guy that could very well be a healthy scratch for the playoffs.

Fucking lazy ass Russian. All the talent in the world but the most questionable work ethic out there. It's like he just doesn't care. He has had some really great seasons in his career and granted he is 38 years old but even still, he has the talent to be a consistent 50-60 point player, regardless of age. He should take some lessons from Mr. Ray Whitney. Class and heart all the way.

Anyway you are right. Who would have paid much more for him? This is hardly a make you or break you move but with the injuries etc, I think for the price Pitt had to take a shot on him.

Tonight Kovy with a goal and the SOW. Not too shabby!
