Disclaimer: All of the following are based on my (hopefully) unbiased opinion and are in no way statistical fact. Factors going into my decisions include goalie skill, match up, career stats vs, and recent trends. How many goalies start reflects how much I write about them, usually. If you disagree about anything feel free to voice your opinion!

C = CONFIRMATION: All confirmations are listed below or click here (http://goaliestatus.com/)

Early Game: ATLANTA @ EDMONTON 3:30pm EST

Must Start
Rinne vs PHX: You would think a 48 OTL effort would tire a goalie out, but Rinne came right back 2 days later and had a 36 save win against Vancouver. If he can up his win total a bit to compete with the leaders he'll surely be a Vezina candidate, if he's not already.
Luongo vs DAL: Nashville and St.Louis are the only 2 teams to beat Luongo in regulation (3 games total) since November 21st. He's been great, and with his track record against Dallas he should continue that trend.
Niemi vs COL: Niemi has won 10 of his last 14 starts, and played well in a couple losses as well. The turn around from both him and the rest of the team have been great.

Good Start
Reimer vs OTT: Reimer got his first win against Ottawa, and the rest is history. Both Giggy and Gustavsson are injured, so Reimer will be the man for the forseeable future.
Quick @NYI: He's a winner of 7 of his last 8, with 5 of those games being .914sv% or higher. He's a stellar 4-0 against the Islanders with a 1.22gaa and .949sv%.
Brygalov @NSH: 6 wins in a row now for Bryzgalov, will he make it 7? He's been great in all of them.

Toss Up
Brodeur @CAR: He backed up Hedberg last night, is he ready? If not the next game is a possibility. He was great before injury, and Hedberg has been unstoppable in his absence.
Ward vs NJD: With the win last night, Carolina now has a 4 point lead on 9th place, and I think it'll stay that way. Ward will still be pushed to ensure it does though.
Clemmensen @TBL: After a few solid games started in a row, Clemmensen fell back to earth and sucked in is last 2. Vokoun could go again, and he'd be ranked the same.
Conklin vs ANA: Conklin is coming off a shutout and hasn't allowed a goal in 90 ish minutes. With Brewer and now EJ gone that certainly doesn't help their goalie situation, but with playoffs still in reach they'll do what they can to win.

Weak Start
Pavelec @EDM: Another 4 goal loss makes that his third in 7 games, and some others weren't much better. He's never played Edmonton before.
Khabibulin vs ATL: With two 1 goal wins in a row, Khabibulin improves to 10-25-2. Really, he was outstanding, but he hasn't won 3 in a row all season, and only won 2 in a row twice.
Anderson @TOR: Lehner played yesterday, does Anderson make his debut tonight? I really hope they send Lehner down and have Leclaire back him up.
Roloson vs FLA: Roloson has found some consistency, but unfortunately it's playing poorly. He's allowed 23 goals in his last 5 games and only won 1.
McElhinney @STL: McElhinney has let in 12 goals in his last 2 starts. Emery lost his first game in the AHL but the progress he's making is awesome. Masterson winner if he plays another NHL season no doubt.
Lehtonen @VAN: What happened to the Stars, they were struggling before Richards was injured too right? Lehtonen has won just 1 of his last 8 games, and is absolutely awful against Vancouver.

Don't Start
Lawson vs LAK: Lawson let in 5 goals in just over a period against Boston. His numbers are awful.
Elliott @SJS: Does Elliott make his Avs debut, or do they roll with Budaj? He has similar numbers in Ottawa as Anderson did in Colorado, so we'll probably see a bit of an improvement, especially with Johnson joining the ranks.

Pavelec likely....no link but below is a write up

Despite the fact Pavelec is coming off two mediocre games this week and sports a 0-3-1 record with a 4.67 GAA in his last four road starts, we expect he will be given the chance Saturday afternoon in Edmonton. Pavelec has never faced the Oilers, who are on a two-game win streak.

Assuming both start, Roloson or Anderson?

02-19-2011, 12:11 PM
If you have to start one, Roloson. Florida and Ottawa both played last night, and he's on the better team by far.

Any news on Lou/Rinne/Lehtonen?

Lindback is sick and Dekanich was recalled. Gotta assume Rinne will start.
