TOR gets a 1st round pick and 3rd round pick from PHI in exchange for Versteeg.

Not sure, but assume he'll play on top line with Richards?

He's available in my league, anyone think an upgrade over Leino?

Yeah I'd grab him over Leino. He should get a good opportunity on Philly.

Anyone think I can use him on either team?

If he is indeed on the top line with Richards than who would he bump off? He would make for a pretty solid pickup.

Excellent.. I was hoping he would go to a solid contender.

I do think he will be a good girtty fit on a scoring line in Philly. Do you guys think he is likely to see PP1 time? Maybe on the point again like he did with Tor?

I dunno. I think Versteeg fits better on a 3rd line. especially on a team with good scoring already like Philly. As Toronto discovered, he doesn't really work that well as a "go-to" guy.

If Zherdev is a healthy scratch sometimes, either he will be too or another player will be. Personally I think the move only makes sense if they're bumping up Giroux to top 6.

Ugh, it looks like the Flyers lines have been all over the place with mix and match wingers and centers swapping top lines. Have no idea where he'd fit in? I'm gonna take a wait and see approach until after tomorrow and maybe Wednesday's game to see where they put him.

Don't expect a lot of consistency wrt to lines. I don't see him getting any PP1 time. I also don't see his value increasing much on this incredibly deep Flyers team.

Hurts Leino's value and I'd probably dump him for Versteeg.

"For Versteeg there seems to be a variety of lines he could play on, from one with Mike Richards (http://www.dailyfaceoff.com/newsfeed?PlayerID=1153) to Jeff Carter (http://www.dailyfaceoff.com/newsfeed?PlayerID=1126) or Claude Giroux (http://www.dailyfaceoff.com/newsfeed?PlayerID=1129). (Edit: Versteeg starts off with Richards, says Sam Carchidi of Philly.com (http://twitter.com/#%21/BroadStBull/status/37314582607302656)). It goes without saying that a scoring line on Philly certainly beats the third line in Toronto." - From DailyFaceoff

I don't know it seems to me everywhere Versteeg goes he ends up on the 3rd line eventually.

Burying both Leighton and Walker and their million plus salaries in the minors helps.

Plus only about 1 third of Versteeg's contract counts against the Philly cap. I'm guessing with this acquisition they don't re-sign Zherdev. I'll be interested to see how they can keep Leino now.

Doesn't the cap go up next year? If so, they should be able to sign him.

I would expect the lines to start out as;

Hartnell/Briere/Leino
JVR/Richards/Versteeg
Zherdev/Carter/Giroux

Expect to see Versteeg on the point on the 2nd PP unit with Meszaros as he'll replace JVR who was back there for the last couple of the games.

Only if revenues go up, and considering the recession in the US that's unlikely in fact, it's quite possible the cap could go down.

I, for the life of me, cannot remember where I read it but didn't/isn't the NHL signing a new TV deal this year that will assist the overall cap situation?

They're negotiating, but I don't think it's done yet. Here's two links to shed some light on the situation.

Potential TV deal doesn't have much impact:

Potential TV deal could increase by 50%:
http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/01/25/us-nhl-revenue-idUSTRE70O4HE20110125

In that second article there are a two stats that don't make sense to me:

- The NHL said its teams were playing to more than 92 percent capacity, above last year's total, which was the third-best ever.
- Forbes last month estimated 16 of the league's 30 teams had lost money during the 2009-2010 season.

If the league is playing to 92% capacity and half the league is still losing money the business model is flawed.

Still have half a million to spare...
