View Full Version : Help with Keepers

We get to keep five based on the round they were drafted -1. The number in the parenthesis is the Draft Round it will cost me this year to keep the player. The players without a draft value I believe were FA pickups which cost a 10th round, but I would have to double check and make sure I didn't get any in a trade. Here is the team....

Yuniesky Betancourt (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/7511)
Chase Headley (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/8057)
Ryan Howard (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/7437) (3rd)
Adam Lind (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/7859) (9th)
Magglio Ordóñez (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/5889)
Scott Podsednik (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/6489)
Jorge Posada (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/5502) (14th)
Albert Pujols (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/6619) (1st)
José Reyes (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/7066) (2nd)
Denard Span (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/8213) (10th)
Shane Victorino (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/7104) (6th)
Rickie Weeks (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/7213) (11th)

Andrew Bailey (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/8440) (7th)
Joaquín Benoit (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/6659)
Jonathan Broxton (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/7613) (4th)
Chris Carpenter (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/5771) (13th)
Johnny Cueto (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/8172)
John Danks (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/7808) (12th)
Armando Galarraga (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/8140)
Wandy Rodríguez (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/7552) (5th)
Josh Tomlin (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/8769)
Jonny Venters (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/8709)
Jered Weaver (8th) (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/7708)

As of right now I'm keeping Pujols, Reyes, and Howard. I think Carpenter at 13 is a good value. Thoughts?

Yeah those 3 are obvious choices. Charpenter is your 4th keeper especially at that value. Your 5th keeper is a toss up for me with Lind or Weeks based on value. Leaving me to choose Weeks at 11th being you best value and a more then decent player at 2B.

I'd roll the dice and leave Reyes unprotected so I could hang onto Weaver and Lind whom I like at the rounds that they were drafted in. Not to mention the injury risk Reyes brings to the table nor the hype that he has yet to live up to...just not big on him and he may be there in rd 2 once you draft anyway.

3..Weaver - 233 K's, 54 BB's,1.07 Whip, 3.01 ERA = great value for an 8th

4..Lind - 2009 he went 35 HR's, 114 Ribs, .305 Avg - upside is huge for a 9th

5..Carp over Danks for the final spot for me anywho

Pujols, Howard, Carpenter... These are the no questions for me. Then I would go for any two of Weaver, Reyes, Lind or Weeks. Weeks just got a fat payday.
