Going to try and speed this up a bit, so pick two.

This should be done considering basic categories (G, A, +/-, PIM, PPP, SOG, - W, SV%, GAA, SO) and Basic positions (C, RW, LW, D and G)

As far as the point of these rankings, it's just something fun and interesting to do (a procrastination tool). I understand leagues have different categories and scoring rules, but that still doesn't prevent sites like rotoworld, espn, etc. from ranking players. I think the people on this forum are more in tune with fantasy hockey then those sites and can come up with better rankings.

It's really all silly after about 12-14 picks. Depending on who you get in the first round your strategy is bound to change. Not many people are taking position into affect to begin with, the whole thing gets skewed.

It's impossible to take position into consideration in a poll like this because, as you stated, your drafting strategy will be determined by who you are able to draft in previous rounds. The only way to really assess this is to ask: who is the best player in a keeper league?
