Thanks to nyrblue2's for the template and for all his hard work running this thread in the past. Please add your comments, information on line-ups, changes due to injuries, etc on this thread and I will try to incorporate them in the projected line-ups. A question mark means that I know the player is injured but don't know who is taking his place. The date next to the team name indicates the date of the information (game data, news item, etc.) used to generate the line-up.

From nyrblue2: If you would like details on who was on the ice for different events, go to: http://www.nhl.com/scores/index.html (http://www.nhl.com/scores/index.html). Click on "GameCenter" for whichever game you want. Hover over "Stats" and a drop-down menu will come up. Choose "Full Play-by-play".

From doofdoof/abusiveninja: If you would like the bar graphs of when each player was on the ice during a game, go to http://www.timeonice.com and type in the NHL game number (the last five digits on the NHL.com boxscore URL).

Just missing Gunnarsson as the 6th D

*edit*

For Carolina Samsonov is on the IR, and Boychuk was sent down. Bowman and Dalpe should be there instead.

I guess Higgins fills the void on Florida.

I'm curious to see if Hendricks dressed for Washington after his hat trick in the preseason.

I put Tangradi since Dobber had him play on that line 67% of the time in the preseason. Also fixed the rest of Pittsburgh based on Dobber.

I am ignoring lots of Dmen on all the teams that I arbitrarily think are not relevant for fantasy. If you see a relevant fantasy Dman that I missed, let me know and I will add him.

I am using nyrblue2's template and will happily hand the reins back over.
I wouldn't count on me being much help this year, so the reins can gladly stay in your hands. I slacked off near the end of last season due to excessive workload (AM in the office was once primetime for making the threads) and it doesn't look to be any different these days.

Thanks for taking the lead on this and as others have said in this thread already, and many times in the past, it is greatly appreciated. I also think this is one of the most handy threads we have on here.

I don't know if you plan on doing the links to the shift charts as well, but let me know if you need any help with that.

Good luck.

Can you at least tell us where Fedetenko fits in? I don't see him on the lineups above but he will likely be a top 6 forward for Tortarella.

I'm assuming for the short term he takes Prospal's place?

Well, okay, but I can tell you with a good degree of certainty that Godard will not be playing games regularly, and certainly not at center. Letestu is certain to have a roster spot since the Pens would have had to waive him today if they were cutting him -- that is why most of the speculation has Tangradi being sent down tomorrow.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. I just put up a first draft of the Western Conference. Once again I used the Yahoo Team Reports which are unreliable and looked at each team in Dobber. The problem with Dobber is that I can tell how often players played with each other but NOT whether they played together at the beginning of preseason or at the end, which is pretty critical in many cases.

I will go through the comment section and try to implement everyone's feedback. Keep it coming.

He was/is. But based on how Buffalo was structuring lines in the preseason, they appear to want to try to spread talent and grit amongst the 4 lines. If the experiment doesn't work (and, personally, I don't expect it to -- though Ruff has shown he's generally smarter than I am in the past), look for Ennis to move to the 2nd line, Hecht to move to the 3rd line, Gerbe to go to the AHL and McCormick to have a regular spot.

Wow... Vancouver's running 3 dmen with the Sedins on PP1

No. Since we really don't know the PP1 and PP2 situation, I just simply made players yellow if they got a lot of PP time in the preseason (>50% of the PP shifts according to Dobber) and blue if they got some PP time in the preseason (30-50% of the PP shifts).

The yellow and blue will have to fixed when real games start.

Agreed. From everything I have read, Detroit wants to make sure that once Lidstrom leaves, Kronwall and Rafalski are fully capable of taking control. I think they want Kronwall to play most of the year with Lidstrom...just to learn as much as he can while Lidstrom is still playing.

Switched up Pittsburgh in line with your suggestions. I guess we will find out on opening night.

In the preseason, they spread the PP out a lot (all the yellow players got >50% of the PP shifts in the preseason + Crosby who only got 40%) so I have no idea (except for Crosby/Malkin) who will get the majority of the PP time.

I will go ahead and sticky this thread per double request, at least temporarily until things appear more sorted as far as line combination are concerned.

Also --

We all know how it goes in SJ but for what it's worth right now the big guns are all split up in San Jose as they look for more 5 on 5 scoring and "depth"

Sharks line combinations are starting to take shape for opening night as they appeared in the following fashion at Wednesday’s practice:

McGinn-Thornton-Setoguchi
Marleau-Couture-Heatley
Clowe-Pavelski-Mitchell
McLaren-Nichol-Mayers (or McCarthy or Wingels)

Kennedy, Letestu, Dupuis, and Tangradi are those in the running for those spots. Like I said, most speculation has Tangradi being sent down, though. If I had to take a (wild) guess at how it shakes out, I'd say Kennedy plays with Crosby, Letestu plays with Malkin, and Dupuis plays with Rupp.

So you were right about Tangradi:

The Penguins sent LW Eric Tangradi to the ECHL on Wednesday.

Tangradi will report to the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL. Tangradi was projected to make the team out of training camp however the news is not great here. While odd, it appears that the move could have been more procedural than anything else. Goalie Patrick Killeen was recalled to take Tangradiís spot.

Now I have no idea who will be on the second line in Pittsburgh....

The expected Canucks lineup:

D. Sedin - H. Sedin - Samuelsson
Raymond - Kesler- Torres
Schaefer? - Malholtra - Hansen
Glass - Bolduc - Desbien

Hamhuis, Ballard, Edler, Ehrhoff, Bieksa

Thanks! I have implemented the change. I thought that Hodgeson was starting with the Canucks second line?

Tangradi actually got sent down to Wheeling today and goalie Patrick Killeen was recalled from the Nailers. Tangradi was on Pittsburgh radio today talking about how he bought 13 some tickets for the home opener tomorrow. I would be surprised if he wasn't available and dressed come game time.

Many of us are under speculation that this is a temporary move, however, thinking that Tangradi did in fact make the team. If they were going to send him down, he would have been assigned to WBS and not Wheeling. You would think.

One of the goalies must be sick or have a minor injury that's put their status for tomorrow's game in doubt. They need an emergency goalie on hand just in case. Killeen gets the call because he's at Wheeling which is a short drive to Pittsburgh. The only problem is that they already have a full 23 man roster. Somebody needs to go to open up a space. The only guy that can be sent down without going on waivers is Tangradi. Thus, he goes down to Wheeling (probably just as a procedural move) to open up a spot for Killeen.

Tangradi has now been recalled to Pittsburgh. No explanation from the team or Tangradi on the move that I've seen yet. Tangradi will wear #26 tonight according to his twitter.

EDIT: Apparently he was moved in case Asham was able to play tonight (he's not). The Pens chose to send him to Wheeling for its close proximity to Pittsburgh (WBS is on the other side of the state).

Still some uncertainty on Buffalo's lines because Vanek (neck) was skating as an extra in practice the other day. If I hear see an update from today, I'll post back.

Vanek/Hecht - Connolly - Pominville
Ennis - Roy - Stafford
Gerbe - Niedermayer - Grier
Gaustad - McCormick - Kaleta

Why Goose wasn't playing center on that line I am not certain... he was one of our better faceoff guys if I recall...

Found an update on Buffalo.

Vanek - Connolly - Pominville
Ennis - Roy - Stafford
Hecht - Niedermayer - Grier
McCormick - Gaustad - Kaleta (Goose at center -- that's more like it)

PP1: Roy, Ennis, Stafford, Pominville (point), Myers
PP2: Vanek, Connolly, Gaustad, Sekera, Leopold

Gerbe's likely the scratch of the forwards tonight. Could be Hecht, though since his pinky is not 100% (I swear I did not make that up).

And a Pens update:

Chris Kunitz - Sidney Crosby - Pascal Dupuis
Eric Tangradi - Mike Comrie - Evgeni Malkin
Matt Cooke - Mark Letestu - Tyler Kennedy
EDIT: Talbot - Rupp - Adams/Godard

EDIT2:
PP1: Comrie, Crosby, Kunitz, Malkin (point), Goligoski

Hasn't this extraordinarily time consuming effort been made obsolete by dobber's line combination tool?

for the start of the season yes, but as the season progresses no. Let's say Versteeg plays with Kessel for 41 games and after that they move Vertseeg to the 2nd line & put someone else on Kessel's line. Dobber's line combo tool won't be able to tell you that, it will just tell you that Versteeg played with Kessel x% of the time so far this season which doesn't help if he isn't there anymore.

kopecky will likely stay on a line with toews/hossa as long as they produce.....they showed great chemsitry against the flyers in a game in the finals and they continued to play well together in camp....hossa/kopecky are both slovakian and seem to click so the hawks are hoping that brings out the offensive side of kopecky...its not realy a suprise though remember Bowman signed both from the Wings....that was not accidental...

ya he has glimpses of playing like a power forward but I don't think he can/will play like that consistently...IMO he is a pretty skilled playmaker that has not really had a chance to show that...if he stays with hossa/towes he should be racking up the assists as both toews/hossa are snipers.....I think he could be a 20 goal scorer with 35-40 assists if he stays with those guys and continues to play well...

Kubina played on the point 86% of the time tonight. 77% of the time he was with 4 forwards. Hedman played 23% and Clark only played 14% (probably one shift). Clark must have scored on his one PP shift while Kubina has sucking it despite the PP time. So far, the coach is staying with him.

Thanks. I changed it back to those PP units since that is likely going to be the PP units going forward. BUT, last game was a bit weird since while Colaiacovo got 48% of PP time and EJ got 37%, the rest of the PP time for defensemen (ignoring Steen) was really divided up evenly across Pietrangelo (11%), Brewer (13%) and Polak (13%). I have been following a general rule that any player that does not get at least 20% of PP time doesn't get a blue color.

Just a heads up for a potential change in Montreal. Martin's been tinkering with the lines at practice. They look like this:

AK46-Pleks-Camms
Moen-Gomez-Gionta
Eller-Halpern-Lapierre
Pouliot-Boyd-Pyatt

Hamrlik-Spacek
Subban-Picard
Gorges-Gill
Markov-O'Byrne

So Pouliot got a big demotion, probably because he missed a few golden opportunities last night.

They keep tinkering with that Gomez/Gionta line. Trying Pyatt out there now. They'll probably keep changing it up until someone shows they can stick there for more than a game or two. IMO Pouliot ends up there but not for awhile. Need to see more from him before that happens.

Pronger (knee) replaced Mike Richards on the top power-play unit in Wednesday's practice, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Recommendation: Flyers head coach Peter Laviolette is trying to fix the team's power-play system that has generated only one goal on the man advantage after nine opportunities. According to the Inquirer, Pronger is getting strength back in his surgically repaired knee which bodes well for his potential upgrade on the power play.

That is great news for Pronger owners like myself. When I first read the report, I thought they were putting Pronger as a forward.....but then realized they were talking about the point on the PP. :)

Thanks. I just updated Pittsburgh based on Monday's game. They went back to more of a regular line system, though they still shuffle up the lines a lot, I think mostly to get Crosby double shifted.

I will try to update most of the other teams again after tonight's games. I am interested to see what happens in NYR with all the injuries.

There will be some new lines for the Flyers tonight:

van Riemsdyk - Carter - Zherdev
Hartnell - Briere - Leino
Powe - Giroux - Richards
Shelley - Betts - Carcillo

The most notable changes are that Richards and Carter have been separated, with Richards moving down to the wing on Giroux's line. Powe has been promoted to the 3rd line, Carcillo has drawn back into the lineup on the 4th line, and Nodl is out. I'll keep you guys updated on the lines as I assume there will be plenty of changes throughout the game.

Marcus Johansson centered the top line during Tuesday's practice.
Johansson played alongside Alex Ovechkin and Mike Knuble. Meanwhile, the Capitals second line consisted of Brooks Laich, Nicklas Backstrom, and Alex Ovechkin. Obviously, nothing is set in stone, but it would be a big opportunity for Johansson if he actually gets to play with Ovechkin on Wednesday. Johansson has a goal in eight games this season.

Martin practiced on the Pens' top power-play unit during the team's morning skate Wednesday, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Recommendation: Martin went from skipping practice Tuesday with a maintenance day to manning a point on the man advantage with Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin 24 hours later. Pittsburgh's power-play went 0-for-6 Monday and has been disappointing most of the year. Whether Martin, who has one goal and nine points in 16 games, can stick on the No. 1 unit remains to be seen. He has three power-play assists in 2010-11, but has just two points in the last 12 contests.

van Riemsdyk - Richards - Briere
Leino - Carter - Nodl
Hartnell - Giroux - Zherdev
Carcillo - Betts - Powe
Shelley

Timonen - Coburn
Carle - Meszaros
O'Donnell - Bartulis
