You missed a great one, but thats ok because someone else was watching that game.
Post the game highlight everyone missed so we can look it up in the morning, if you have a link to post even better. I figure this is a good thread for nights like tonight where there are 12 games on and yo ucan't watch them all.
What about sportscenter you say? Well we're in the U.S. and hockey coverage sucks. Maybe we can save some thread space as well.

I don't have a link, but the Tim Thomas save on Patrick Elias/Lagenrbrunner two on one was beautiful tonight.

Ill post it when this guy updates his site but both Ovechkin goals tonight were awesome. The first he just threw it towards the net and was deflected and just went in over Lundqvist, weird play but looked cool. The second goal to tie it at 4 the Rangers turned it over and allowed a 1 on 1 with Lundqvist and Ovechkin went backhand forehand for the goal. There were alot of good goals in this game.

P.S. damn that Wheeler goal was sick.

Tim Thomas had some awesome saves in his 2-0 shutout over the Devils tonight. One where he was completely beat, but dove backwards and got a paddle on the puck.

There is only one highlight from tonight. Fuck anything else. John Tavares' goal in the World Jr Hockey Championship warmup game was ABSOLUTELY UNREAL.

http://www.tsn.ca/

Just click the highlight reel on the right and watch the magic. If you play hockey ever, you can truly appreciate how SICK that is.

There's a shot on goal, and the rebound is going in the air past the post he's standing next to, and he reaches out and bats the puck out of the air from behind the goal line, back to infront of the goal line ON HIS BACKHAND, and then while the puck is still in midair he switches to his forehand and bats the puck out of the air into the open net.

Absolutely sick.

Brilliant goal.

On a related note, I did this during roller hockey once, but a bit different - we were playing with milk crates as goals , and I was skating behind the "net" and flipped it up over the net and backhanded it in.

Here's the highlights of yesterday's Team Canada - Czech game.... JT's second goal is the one TF is referring too... pretty slick, hits it in the air back hand to get the puck in front of the net, then bats it out of the air into the net. Remember the kids dad was a lacrosse star, so he probably played a bit and has sick hand eye coordination.

Nice goal by Boychuk in here too for you poolies that have him on your farm. Pickard with the SO.

No, that's his uncle, who is the NLL's all-time Pts leader. And yes JT also played, I watched him a few times as a Jr, if you can believe it, some think he's better at Lacrosse then hockey, but Lacrosse does not pay any where near what hockey pays, not even close.

I don't understand why he doesn't use this move more often. Obviously he can't do it every time, 'cause the other teams' goalie's would know and would be watching for it, but he rarely ever uses it from the Wings' shootouts that I've seen, and it seems to work when he does use it. Not sure why he doesn't try it more often....

Good point. I'm not suggesting he breaks it out every time, just a little more often than currently does. Once or twice a season isn't much. I think he could pull it outta the bag three or four more times a season and still get a way with it.

Really late to this conversation but the difference between Datsyuk's signature and anybody else's is that if you even half-anticipate it, Datsyuk looks like a fool. I think he understands this and therefor chooses his moments wisely. If a goalie expects him to do that its the easiest poke check of their careers.

But then, perhaps he makes a last second decision and only follows through if the goalie bites on the dekes - maybe if the goalie doesn't he just attempts a regular wrist shot at the end of that instead of the fancy slide/

What amazes me most is that he managed a shot that good when he gave himself literally no time to actually pick his spot after the quick shot fake to freeze the D-man. As soon as he had it back on his forehand it was gone. If you look at the replay, McElhinney didn't even react with his glove until the puck was well into the net. Love it.

Eberle does it again, 2 goals in his career, 2 shorthanded goals.

Thats some extremely professional use of body positioning to embarrass Marleau.

phaneuf6
10-24-2010, 04:09 PM
I wouldn't say he embarrassed Marleau at all. He always had a step on him from the moment he took that pass from Horcoff. That defenseman should've recognized that and stepped in and allowed Marleau to pick up the second winger. Still a nice goal.

Datsyuk's goal was a nice display of hands too. Goal scorers know where to shoot the puck, they don't really need to 'pick a spot', they know on a quick shot the corners are open.

Well you can see him communicating with Marleau about the second man, but how he didn't recognize Eberle had a clear step on Marleau is beyond me. Pretty easy read IMO.

Fair enough, embarrassed wasn't a fair word for it. Definitely still a very smart play by Eberle that defies his rookie status.

It is very similar to the Mccarty goal in that with the goal looks more slick because the goalie completely wiffed on a poke check

just to be clear - the only reason these goals look good is because the goalie didn't stop them?

Made me think - the only time I've ever seen a goalie make a good save was when the guy shot it in the right spot.

LOL I understand what you mean  I'm just saying when a goalie blows a pokecheck that bad its like deeking on an empty net. Darin Mccarty could have scored that goal.

I do think Vanek splitting the D was pretty slick.

I gotta agree with him though. The concept of a highlight sports reel doesn't revolve around JUST the talent on display (even though there is extreme talent on display here by Vanek) A highlight is about an entertaining moment in sports. Lots of the most amazing highlights in sports history wouldn't be possible without a huge goof up in some form by the other team. It happens and a player still needs to capatalize and finish the play. Who cares if he wiffed on the poke check. Vanek made an amazing move to get inside position on two defenders and capped it off with a slick little backhand deke. I'd say Vanek dodged the pokecheck moreso than Holtby missed, anyway. It was a top notch display of skill by Vanek that only a few players around the league could pull off, and so far among the better goals of this season.

This is probably a repost (gotta be) but its worth another look... Linus Omark #23 of the Oilers. The way the puck hits the crossbar...

YouTube - Linus Omark Amazing Goal Against Schweiz 31-03-09

First NHL game today vs the LIghtning, first shootout attempt... once the clip becomes available, i;ll edit/post it. not as sneaky as the sweden goal but he stole the spotlight nonetheless. Highlight of the night material. The Oilers are 5-0-1 in the last 6 and Hall is proving to be a ROY candidate for sure. These young guns are starting to play some old school oiler hockey.

For some reason, nhl.com only shows Eberle's goal which was sick but not what im looking for...

Jordan Eberle scored the shootout winner, but Swedish rookie Linus Omark's clincher in the Edmonton Oilers' 4-3 victory against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Friday night was the goal that left the sellout crowd at Rexall Place buzzing.

nice. i was looking for that. What they dont show is the 10-15 seconds before the attempt. The ref made him wind-up twice because the first time he left on his own/didnt wait for the whistle. He was already by the net before he stopped , When watching it Live it added to the drama.. I see you posted the original Linus Omark goal (I had a feeling i watched it here -post 58 but its no longer imbedded properly).

I don't understand the reaction (Stamkos said it didn't show a lot of respect for the game), really????

It was a good move, that ended in a goal. The NHL needs more of these youtube/sportscentre highlights to win casual and non-fans over. As a die-hard NHL fan I love seeing the creativity from a player like Omark.

It was his first NHL game with the game on the line. Not to mention that everyone knows him from his shootout goals on youtube.

Everyone in the arena stood up when it was his turn to shoot too, so he should have definately been feeling the pressure to perform.

Honestly, Eberle's goal before his was much better... but in context, Omark's goal is impressive.

I agree. It is like the shit you see when you play NHL 11 in shootout, guys doing all kinds of useless moves that don't affect the eventual shot they will take.

habsfan1

I don't know if it was useless though. I'm sure doing a move like that at the got Ellis thinking that Omark would deke or pullout some crazy move instead of just shoot. Ellis didn't seem really ready for the shot.

Koivu stole Ryan's stick so Ryan picked Koivu's left handed stick off the ice and proceeded to bang home the one timer. Can't say I've ever seen anything like that.
