It took the Devils 7 games and multiple OT to beat the lowly Panthers and the Flyers almost swept the "favorites to go to the Cup" Penquins.......

    Flyers in 5

I wouldn't say lowly Panthers. Florida were very underrated.

However, I'll take Philly in 6. New Jersey has a couple forwards that can score goals, and with Bryzgalov in net, you never know.

Flyers in 5. In 4 if Giroux continues to play the way he did against the Pens.

Flyers peaked out vs the Penguins, the team they always play their best vs, and will show up unprepared for a fundamentally sound NJD team with actual two-way forwards. The Penguins spoiled the Flyers with embarrassing defensive coverage and goaltending worse than we've seen in the playoffs in many years. They might explode once and grind out another but I predict NJ winning an incredibly frustrating series for the Flyers in 6 games.

I knew that rust would be an issue but this is ridiculous.

Did NJD take their feet off the gas or did Philly wake up? The first 20 minutes were overwhelmingly in NJ's favor, now they've managed 5 shots in the 30 minutes since and allowed 3 goals.

Probably a bit of both but Philly really woke up after the 1st period. Unfortunately, Bryzgalov couldn't stop an average shot from Sykora so we have OT.

Yeah I tuned in right in time for that. Bryz is really choking under pressure this year. He even said before the game "I wish I was paid minimum salary so there was no spotlight on me." What kind of public declaration of no confidence is that? In Phoenix there were zero expectations and he got to be the only good player. Now hes one of 10 stars on the team and hes expected to be good enough to turn the phenomenal team in front of him into the best team in the league (Flyers always were as good as any team on offense/defense, goaltending was the only issue for five years and he was supposed to fix it). I love Bryz, all the talent in the world, but wake the fuck up and answer the higher calling the Flyers offered! He only needs to be nearly as good as he was in Phoenix and he has yet to do that.

That was a clear kick, good call

Edit - And only minutes later Philly gets their well deserved win.

Definitely a kick. I'm glad that the rust only lasted for 1 period. I was worried about it lasting the entire game.

Sounds like no Kovalchuk for NJ tonight.

Injury or healthy scratch? Either makes sense to me.

Why would a healthy scratch make sense for Kovy? Did something happen? He hasn't been phenomenal but hes been reallygood.

I wouldn't recommend benching him but he was #2 on the mistake list for them last game (behind Zidlicky).

The Flyers are the NHL`s version of Jekyll and Hyde. You don`t know what team will come out from period to period and they rarely play a full 60 minute game. Advantage NJ.

Though they didn't show it tonight, Flyers are still the better team. It was good to see Bryzgalov show up in the second period. We are going to need more play like that if we want to advance.

Being the better team doesn't mean you'll win. Ask VAN, BOS, and PIT. Being the winning team is all that matters.

20 shots to NJ 34. bryz prevented a 7-1 game. Flyers were annihilated at home. Advantage NJ with homeice to boot.

Phillys defense/goaltending has been suspect in the post season thus far, unfortunately for me Pitt's was even worse! Good work by the Devils here. I still think they take these series but it will likely be a lengthy one.

Two PP's in OT with a total of 2 shots and we lose in that same OT period!! You'd think this is the '96 Flyers team! C'mon fellows, pick it up!!!

NJ played really well during the two PKs.. PHI barely had a clear chance to shoot and were kept outside of the zone.
