Any chance you could implement a voting/ranking system for users that are helpful. I've seen it around and I think it'd make a lot of sense on this site. Just a thought.

Im pretty sure this was brought up a while back and shut down. I think the main reason was the voting/rankings might create animosity and an unstable atmosphere.

* If its more work for the admin it will surely be shot down :x

Hm. I could go either way on this. I personally never bothered with the karma/rep/ranking systems in other forums before...

I would be fine with it, but realize that it won't be used for "who gives the best fantasy hockey advice" as much as "who's the nicer guy/bigger prick."

Yeah, I think this idea was orginally shot down 'cause it would just turn into a popularity contest.

Well, the reason I say it is because maybe it's just me but there seems to be a lot of bad advice going around on the fantasy forums. Maybe that's just me being a prick though.

if i am asking for advice i am certainly looking for certain people's opinions just from my experience on the boards. I think its already a natural thing people do. I have thought that it would be fun to have a 'retrospect' at the end of the season, dig up some threads and see who gave good advice. I followed one of my trades for a while and saw who was right hah. If i remember most people said it was a bad deal, it ended up being pretty even but eih.

Yeah, we've gone down this road before. I can't see enabling it again any time soon.

Jeff, do you play fantasy hockey or sports?

I find my opinion of myself is far better than what others think of me. Therefore I prefer my version of reality. Please don't take that away.

Its all I have left.:$

Jeff, do you play fantasy hockey or sports? He's getting a hockey team this year. It was one of my resolutions.

Ok then instead of a reputation system just do a KUDOS system. That way, if someone gives good advice, kudos to them. Problem solved.

I don't think it's necessary if only because most of know who gives good advice and who doesn't. It takes a while to get to know who to listen to and who not to listen to - it's one of the growing pains experienced by all of us while integrating into this community of fantasy nuts.

could probably achieve what Kam is looking for by a couple of polls - who give the best FH advice & who gives the worst...

could probably achieve what Kam is looking for by a couple of polls - who give the best FH advice & who gives the worst...My intention wasn't a popularity contest but instead a way of seeing, easily, which advice is perhaps more highly regarded than a newbie. If you spend any time clicking around the fantasy hockey section you'll see what I mean.

i remember when you had to wait a couple days for a reply to your questions, now its a rather diluted pool of 'experts', cant win

Holy crap, ive been here 5 years... wow i feel old.

I've seen both positive and negative aspects of a kudos/karma system.

POSITIVE:
* gives some indication of whose advice has some value/knowledge behind it. Post count isn't everything.
* encourages members to help one another out
* at some level prevents people from being complete jackasses... or at least encourages them to choose their words more carefully.

NEGATIVE:
* can potentially turn into a popularity contest
* people might become afraid to give contrary advice, which is too bad. It's boring to see a whole thread of people agreeing with each other.
* newbie advice isn't necessarily poor advice
* if there's an add/subtract system, points become a commodity to be given/taken away... which means a members can have a certain amount of power over others. Let's say Member X gets pissed off at Member Y and decides to regularly subtract points from Y over a period of time. You can imagine what bad feelings that leads to.

I think it would be interesting to see what would happen with this kind of system, but maybe a positive-only point system would be the way to go. Having said that, I'd rather judge the value of someone's advice by what or how they write rather than by a number underneath their name.

yeh. and its not an indication of good or bad advice but a person's post count will have an affect on how they are perceived. I think this may occur even if its at a subconscious level. I value someone's opinion of someone i 'know' over someone i dont. Or I go with the majority, or someone very familiar with that team. We have some clear fans of certain teams and if they post and im asking about a player on their team i'll be more likely to listen to them. I think its just a case of taking in info, filtering it through your own knowledge and logic and making a decision. So i dont think we need some system that could help but too many ways it can do harm
