View Full Version : Updates to main page links???

Was going through some of the links on the main/home page, specifically the starting goalies link (and more specifically, the week by week starting goalie grid) and the schedule link, looking for some info, and noticed that neither the week by week starting goalie grid nor the schedule link have been updated since last season.
The 'day of' starting goalie page is being updated regularily, which is fantastic, however I find those other two sources of info to be very valuable tools when making goalie decisions, who to start in weekly lineup pools, etc, and was wondering if they're going to be updated regularily going forward? Just curious. Even if the schedule grid isn't updated, the week by week projected goalie starters grid provides the same info, which I find to be super helpful, saves me from having to go to nhl.com and checking each team's sched individually when HI has it all on one grid.
I really love how HI has become our one-stop-shop for all our fantasy hockey related needs, as it's so much easier to just be able to come here for everything, as opposed to having to search multiple sites for schedules, injuries, goalie starters, line combos, etc, however with the schedule/goalie grid not being updated, that's a good chunk of info that I use regularily that isn't available currently, that I have to go elsewhere for. Any chance that starts getting updated regularily?
If help is needed updating that stuff, I'll gladly volunteer some of my time to help out if need be, as I know I'm missing having that info available to me, and I'm guessing others may be too, and I'd love to help HI be the best it can be in any way I can.
Could Jeff or hockeyinformer (or anybody else with knowledge of the situation) possibly comment on this?

I'm in neither situation to comment or anything, but I have seen a lot of comments on here along the lines of, "oh, HI has a home page" and "I go straight to the forums", make me think that the mods and admins just gave up on it. Now I don't know this to be a fact, but I can see how reading those kind of comments can be a turn off if you put a lot of work into them. So I'm sure if you volunteer for that chgor, then they'd be more than willing to give you some responsibilities because indeed this place has become the one stop site for all fantasy hockey.

I have zero involvement with the main site's content -- and no knowledge of what he intends to do going forward with updates. Sorry I couldn't offer more clarity on that..

If I wasn't prepared to volunteer some of my time, I wouldn't have brought it up, lol. I guess you missed the part of my OP where I said I'd gladly volunteer some time to help out ;).
Oh, and here's a fresh beer for ya...

They're not. I need to get a few things ironed out before I get started (ya know, set a date for my contract negotiation, work out my signing bonus, salary structure, etc ;):lol:... j/k).
Seriously though, dubzz PM'ed me about it, so I've gotten back to him, but I need some info on the best way to go about it i.e. how/where to post it, some basic guidelines on how hockeyinformer has done it in the past, etc. I'll get started on it once hear back from 'the powers that be', but don't hold your breath for something for this week's games. If I do it, I'll start with next week and then go from there.
And as I mentioned to dubzz in my PM, I'm gonna do it only on a trial basis to start. If I end up not having enough time for it, and/or my predictions are lousy, then it doesn't makie sense for me to continue on with it if I can't handle it or if I'm misleading you guys more than I'm helping you.
I think chgorman is hinting that he would like to be a mod ;):D
:lol:, no, not at all actually. Hadn't even considered it TBH, up until you mentioned it.
Even if I wanted to be a mod, I'm guessing the powers that be would be a little hesitant to grant me mod powers due to some of my past transgressions and questionable behaviour, as I've been known to be a shit disturber in the past, which may disqualify me from being a mod (which I'm absolutely fine with).
Put it this way: If 'upper management' here approached me about being a mod, then I'd give it some thought, decide if I could - or would even want to - handle the associated responsibilities, and go from there, but it's definitely not something that's high on my list of things to do right now, and by no means am I campaigning to become a mod with my offer to help out with the weekly goalie projections.
The current mods are doing a great job, so as I say, if I were to be approached to help out as a mod, then I'll gladly give it some thought and try to help if I can, but the current mods/admin are doing a fine job as it is, so I'm not gonna toss my hat into the ring to be a mod unless I'm approached about it first.

Any idea how you are going to predict the starts? Just go by the assumption the back ups will do B2B's?

That, past history (i.e. the goalies' past record vs. opposing teams), available news items that may specify, etc. This is kinda why I need to know what guidleines hockeyinfomer has used in the past, if he simply made educated guesses, or if there was a method to his madness.

Anybody know if hockeyinformer actually checks this section of the forum (or ever visits the forums at all, for that matter)? I'm guessing I'm best to PM him if I want to get a hold of him to get some pointers on doing the weekly goalie starts grid?

Truthfully, I don't think he does nor checks his PMs. I think I PM'd him a while back and nothing. He just may be ignoring me though
I'd try the e-mail route perhaps. He's bound to get that, right?

Hey guys, finally got around to putting the weekly schedule grid together with my projections for who is going to start for the games week (sorry it's a little late), however I need some help posting it.
I created the grid in Excel... what's the best way for me to go about posting it? Post a screen cap? If so, how do I do that? Or am I better off just linking to it, and if so, do I need to 'host' it somewhere first, and if so, how do I go about doing that?
I'm guessing simply copying and pasting the excel grid into a post won't work, as I'll lose all formatting.... ?
Help!

(I'm gonna post this in the site feedback section too, in case Jeff or hockeyinformer see it an can possibly give me some pointers, so don't freak out if you see a duplicate thread in the 'site feedback' forum).
You could host it at any file hosting website and then just provide links to each week's download. Ideally you could get a small amount of webspace and just have a directory with each weeks files. That way you just upload it when you finish it and its there for the taking for anyone who needs it. That way there's no hassle of posting a new link every week, people just check the same place each week. If you're interested in that I'd check out x10Hosting (www.x10hosting.com) where you can get great free webhosting and you can just upload your file each week. PM me if you need some help.

Cool, thx for the input Phaneuf! I'm gonna email hockeyinformer to see what he has to say (still haven't done that yet, and he obviously NEVER visits the forums, or at least not this one, lol), but I'll definitely keep that in mind if I don't hear back from him.

For sure. I'll even go as far as volunteering some time to set it all up and making it way easier for you to just upload and post the file each week. The other way might be a little complicated for you, not sure what you know about FTP and whatnot.

Honestly... absolutely nothing, lol.
That would be sweet if you're willing to volunteer some time. Seeing as it's Tuesday already, I'd like to get this week's grid posted ASAP, so I don't really want to wait to hear back from hockeyinformer.
If you don't mind setting it up, then yeah, for sure, go for it, and just let me know once you're done. Thx dude!

You say that but you don't mean it! :p Look for a temporary solution on Google for now until we can get this setup. After that it'll just be something like hi.x10hosting.com and you can download whatever week you need. We could start sticking other stuff up there too if need be.

Posted this in the other thread, but didn't know if you saw it:
I'd suggest giving Google Documents a shot. You can click on any of my league names in my sig (the 2008-09 teams only) to see what it looks like.
You can do a copy-paste right from excel and it will save the file in webspace. Then you can publish the file as a "webpage" for everyone to view. Let me know if this intrigues you and you need some help with it.
