Howdy all,
I'm joining a 12 team keeper league (keep all players) that had 3 teams drop out, and what we're doing is is mixing the three vacated teams together and us 3 new GM's are redrafting our teams from that pool of players. I've listed the pertinant players below and was wondering if anyone felt like doing a ranking of them so I can get a second opinion....I've listed them roughly in the order that I would draft them, (obviously changing the order as the positional needs change throughout the draft....but just want to organize some kinda cheat sheet ahead of time; also note that the cat's are fairly goalie heavy and keep in mind that these would be keeper team rankings, not just next year), thanks,

hello thats a long list. I wont bother reranking everyone. I will say you go crosby lecavalier 1-2 regardless. Then with the split being 6-4 I would look at goalies kipper then brodeur due to age. Lidstrom should be up there, I would rank chara higher than you have him as he is a multi cat stud with gas left in the tank. I would drop ellis down by gomez and move EJ and redden by frolov. bulin down about 10 and dumont up about 5.
kolzig last :)

Something like this for me. I didn't out too much thought into it past the top 5, but this would be my general feeling on order based on where players are today with current teams. Clearly trades and signings will effect this (ie: if snoops rumour of Khabby to Ottawa comes true, clearly the Bulin wall's value shoots through the roof).

Long list not divided by position but mine is something like this.
EDIT: I realized I never asked how long you guys can keep your players and automatically assumed "a few" seasons, so my list sort of doesn't work, and i removed it. If there's no limit to how long you can keep your players, I would rethink drafting Brodeur. But by the same token, I remember that Kipper is 33 as well.
But my original comments on Kipper remain:
Kipper is a good steal pick this season because his enormous dropoff in production over the last two seasons might let him slip a few spots from his usual first round slot. But the fact of the matter is, if you look at his performance trend, it is not good. He wallowed in mediocrity for an entire half season last season (mediocrity is even a bit too generous), and played only acceptably for the last portion. Be careful leaning too much on him without a solid backup option.

Agreed byou must have some sort of a goalie. With everyone holding all there players, you have to build from future youth developing or trades.

I agree. It's a bit tricky.
Brodeur is the goalie you want next season, but after that it becomes increasingly hard to move him for the proper value, unless you try working the trade deadline for a team preparing to make a run. At any rate, it would have to be done ASAP, which is never good leverage for trades.
You can put your hands together and pray for any pick besides the third. The first two (vinny, sid) are far beyond anyone else in value in a keeper league. Whoever is third will get shafted by being forced into picking two of: Kipper, Brodeur, Lids or else drafting far below value. Lids has excellent 1 year value, but there's the age issue again.
In the third spot, I would definitely go Kipper-Marty to hopefully hoard up the tenders and hopefully create a bit more demand for goalies, and then work the trades all season in order to ship them for elite level prospects to a contender.
In the second spot, I would take Vinny. If the third spot doesn't grab Kipper-Marty, grab whichever one of them is left. If both are taken, get Turco. Why? Suppose you take Lids. The next two picks from the 1 spot will almost certainly include Turco, because the 1st pick doesn't have a #1 goalie yet either. When it comes back to you, the top three goalies of the draft are gone and you have none of them, and the pool is thin from that point downward. If you are sure you can wrangle a trade for a #1 tender, then grab Lids, but otherwise, reach a bit for Turco.
In the first spot, Sid. Target Turco when it swings back around to shore up the goalie situation, and see if a top D-man is still available, like campbell or chara, or if Lids managed to fall a few spots due to his age.

Hey Guys.....thanks for the suggestions....just bumping this thread for further input as the draft is finally underway, (over email), and it's now about the 3rd round....seeing what you think my strategy should be with what I have and what's left (given the league format in the top post)....also, a couple of new players and picks have been added to the pool:
3 man snake format....I'm 3rd pick team:
Team 1:
Crosby
Lidstrom
Campbell
Team 2:
Lecavalier
Turco
2008 1st rd pick
Thomas
Team 3 (ME):
Kiprusoff
Brodeur
Briere
Ellis
Team 1 is now up with 2 picks, then team 2 and then back to me for 2 picks, etc....So here's who's left:

So with the goalie stats so heavy I'm happy with my tenders so far...but if it comes back to me and Khabi/Smith are available, should I grab them to use as trade bait seeing as team 1 will be SCREWED, and goalies have the most leverage in any trades in this format of league? I like Chara, but seeing as there's so much depth at the D picks I'm holding off until he's gone....as I'd be happy grabbing Boyle/Johnson/Timonen a bit later....but I think I'll take Frolov if he's available when it's back to me....any thoughts or care to make a summarized list of who I should be targetting and a quick rank of the top guys left? I know the RW availability SUCKS...not much beyond zherdev/Hejduk....thanks,

Don't count out Ryder....he may go undetected in most drafts, but will play top line with Savard who will see 90+ points this year with the return of Bergeron. If Ryder can score 30 goals 2 years in a row playing with Koivu imagine what he can do with Savard. Plus he is playing for Julien again who really liked him in Montreal. That said you can probably get him in the following round.
