I acquired the 3rd overall pick in our draft a few months ago eying Nikita Filatov. As it turns out it looks like Filatov will be going #2 and as I'm not all that interested in the next best guys (Doughty, Boedker, Hodgson, etc), I'm looking to trade my pick. Here are the offers so far:

I give: 3rd Overall pick, Zach Hamill
I get: Simon Gagne, 2nd round pick in 09

I give: 3rd Overall
I get: Derek Roy

What do you guys think of these offers? Should I take either? If so, which one?

I think i would keep the pick..gagne is too much of a risk imo and you've got a solid C so you dont really need Roy either.

edit: since nieds is probaby going to retire after this year, having a young stud defenseman might be nice. maybe not for this year, but for years to come.

I've never done a dynasty or keeper league, but I agree with this sentiment. Neither of those trades look to have you coming out on top in my opinion.

Tough one on the Roy deal, I guess I'd keep the pick because of how nice your set at Center

Interesting, so you guys think Boedker or Doughty hold more value than Roy or Gagne?

I also have a new offer on the table:

I give: 3rd Overall
I get: 12th Overall and Alexander Radulov

If Radulov does indeed end up leaving the NHL I will get Cam Barker and a 2nd round pick in 09 in his place. What do you guys think?

good god, take the roy deal and run.

You are getting a proven young nhl player with 90 point upside. Even with facing the best d pairing last year (people said the line would faulter) he still improved drastically for the 2nd year in a row. He should be at minimum 70 points year in year out. Players drafted that high in the nhl are lucky to see the kind of numbers he will produce, I dont care if you are stacked at centre, take it and run.

Hm... Roy is good, but he's not THAT good... Pomminville (and Vanek if he ever puts in the effort again) is still the future of the Sabres team's offense.

Roy centers the both of them(?) doesn't that mean he is also in the mix of the future?

Not all the time, nor is such a guarantee to continue. When everyone was healthy, Pominville spent his time mostly with Connolly while Roy and Vanek had a rotating winger since Afino sucks so much.

Sabres line-up typically looked like this:

Vanek - Roy - XXX
Hecht - YYY - Pominville

XXX - Consisted of Stafford, Bernier, Afinogenov, and Connolly throughout the year. My bet would be Stafford for this year.

YYY - With Hecht occasionally switching to center we saw Connolly, Paille, and Gaustad all see time on that line.

no he is not that good (thornton good) however 4/5 I bet he will consistently out produce any pick not name stamkos or filatov and there is always the chance they pull a daigle. That would be an easy accept for me.

I cant believe this is actually a discussion. Has any player you might use the draft pick on put up a PPG yet in the NHL. Jeez, take Roy and then maybe work on something bigger down the road using your strength at center if you feel the need.

Personally everything looks strong all around. I still prefer the Roy offer to anything else I have seen posted.

Bernier isnt on the Sabres anymore you know. I believe hes in Vancouver now

The Roy deal is tempting though...

Take Doughty with the pick. You're too deep at C to warrant Roy and like someone mentioned Nieds should be done this season or so.

Not sure anymore here... my knowledge of prospects is limited. Is Doughty projected to be better than Cam Barker?

If you get Roy in this deal, couldn't you just deal him to another team? He seems to be the best bargaining chip offered to you that you can offer others.
