ESPN 1000 radio in Chicago reports that the Cubs are set to sign ace Carlos Zambrano to sign a five-year, $90 million contract.
Zambrano, currently an 14-game winner who can be a free agent after this season, initially wanted a new deal in place by Opening Day. But talks about a multiyear contract stalled after it was announced the team was going to be sold.
After a slow start, Zambrano is 14-9 overall and 7-3 since July 3.
Zambrano broke in with the Cubs in 2001 and has a 78-51 record with a 3.37 earned run average.
