I have, but only twice because there's not many actual courses to play around here. It's sweet as hell though, I'd love to play more regularly, just a bit of a hassel.

I never have, but if it's anything like real golf then I'd love to give it a shot. Probably a lot less $ too, since I imagine the amount of equipment required is minimal, as are "green fees" I'm guessing?

a good disc runs around $15. u only need a couple discs but a lot of ppl go overboard and carry like 13-15. i carry 5. when i fist started though i just played with 1.as for paying. i play a couple free courses and one course where u have to pay $5 to get into the park. i just bought a $20 annual though. so ya its cheap and really addicting once u get alright at it.
edit: fixed the spelling on innova.

This subject didn't really fit into any other threads I can think of, but figure this could be used for other similar topics/sports in the future (mainly because they probably won't get much traffic on their own, lol).
Anyone on here ever play disc golf (frisbee golf)? They just finished installing a course at a public park near me and it intrigued me enough to play a few times. It the same concept as regular golf - get object from tee into "hole" in as few turns as possible, while playing your ball/disc from where it lies. Each hole is typically between 200-600 feet - par 3 or 4. The "hole" looks like this:
http://www.medeba.com/Disc%20Golf%20Hole%20DB5.jpg
The chains help to "catch" the disc and have it fall into the basket (Although, it also counts if the disc gets caught up in the chains itself). Courses have a variety of terrain - the one near me is mostly in wooded areas, which includes some shots over water, doglegs, uphill/downhill, etc.
The discs are smaller than a regular frisbee, but around the same weight, so they're more dense, but they're made with more flexible plastic/rubber.

I just recently started playing disc golf. I am not the greatest at it, but its fun. If it wasn't for all the trees in the way I would be pretty good ha.
We talked about this before...of "course" i dont remember where. Anyhow I know eykwingnut is an avid player. Im pretty sure there were a couple others in ON because i remember asking where i could find a course. Anyhow...im not sure the "traditionalists" would consider this a sport if actual golf is under suspicion:lol:

I see those frisbee golf courses around from time to time - never tried it, though.
I used to play ultimate frisbee in college a lot. Pretty fun game that is easy to play co-ed.

I play frisbee golf. There is an awesome (and surprisingly long and tiring) course on Toronto Island that I play a few times/summer. I am not hardcore though so I don't have a 'driver' disk, 'putter' disk, etc. - I just use one of my normal (but heavy...and good) frisbees.
I toss the frisbee around a few times a week just to get outside and because it's one of the few things I can do with my knee. I'll also play frisbee golf unofficially...in that there isn't a proper course or 'holes' (that chain goal thing above in the first post) - we just make up our own. (eg. I have a sweet 19-hole short course at my cottage where we have top hit a tree or an object with the frisbee....the last hole involves jumping in the Lake...unless you get a hole-in-one :D)
PS: Ultimate frisbee drives me nuts...not so much the game as the wieners that play it. Not all Ultimate players are wieners...but a lot are. (it's also funny to see the non-athletic types that tend to play Ultimate instead of hockey, basketball, etc. - I don't mean out of shape dudes, I mean dudes that are useless at other sports but they can throw a frisbee so they get hardcore and take it WAY too seriously...my old roommate totally comes to mind...he was like a f'ing field general and it made it not fun for most)

 I know the type that you're talking about. Although, now that I think about it, a lot of the guys I knew who were really into intramural sports in college could be described like that...

Anyone interested can go here to find a course:
http://www.dgcoursereview.com/browse_map.php?mode=map
Just click on your location on the map and it'll show icons for all the courses in that area.
I ended up buying the "real" discs (just 2 of them though - driver and putter) for $8 each, so it's not too bad. I wasn't really planning on it, but one of my friends got a couple right away and you really can wing them a lot farther than a regular frisbee. I've seen some people on the course that have a special carrying bag with like 10 discs in it. WTF?
I guess I should have searched before posting - didn't think there would be an existing thread on disc golf. If a mod wants to merge this with the one that eyk started, feel free: http://forums.hockeyinformer.com/showthread.php?t=38228&highlight=disc+golf
Ill just move it for simplicity. But if some other non traditional sports (like surfing...not sure if that would be considered a sport around here:lol:) comes up we should reinvent this thread.

Well...since posting this, I've become part of the "WTF?" and am pretty much addicted to this now.
I started playing in my local weekly doubles league over the summer (weekly pool gets split into 'A' and 'B' players, then one from each is paired to balance the playing field, then you play "best shot", like "scramble" in regular golf), bought a bag and a bunch more discs. It is crazy how the different kinds are suited to different types of shots - left, right, straight, up, down, etc.
Played in a local tournament a few weeks back - part of a fundraiser to install a new course in Oneonta - and ended up winning my skill division. Going to another one at my "home" course the Saturday after Thanksgiving. For a $30-40 entry fee, you get a "free" pack of stuff - usually a disc or 2, sticker, etc. and if you win your division (or 2nd/3rd/etc.) you get more stuff and a gift certificate (pros get cash). The one in Oneonta was 30 bucks, but I got a disc, sticker and marker disc in the player's pack, plus a $45 gift certificate for winning and a t-shirt for winning a round of a little mini game afterwards. It was also great to see the local support and the money that was coming in towards installing the new course.
When I was down in Nashville for work last month, I actually brought my discs and played on a few of the local courses. Got some strange looks going through airport security...
Just seeing the growth, park improvement and family enjoyment since the course near me opened has been awesome. Every time I'm out, I see a father-son, big family, older couple, etc. out there having a blast. Last Saturday I saw a group of like 4 adults and about 8 kids about 3-5 years old - great stuff. Also, the effect our group has had on the park has been great - it's a city park so there's plenty of garbage, hoodlums, etc., but we made it a point during one club monthly event to help clean up and we dragged in over 600 pounds of trash from around the course as we went through and played. We do our part every time we're out and a lot of other towns/cities around me have gotten wind of the success and there are a bunch more courses in the planning/installation stage.
