View Full Version : HI Features

I've been here for a good seven months now and I am still finding out new features. The latest is the new post link. Before, I thought I couldn't access the newest post automatically unless I was in the home page and clicked on the latest thread in each section. But apparently if you want the latest post in any section you just go to the unread thread title and click on the 'down arrow' link and that will take you to the last unread post.

I guess something I've never really paid attention to, but found it very convenient when I discovered it.

So if anybody else has some tricks about this site to help out newbies or guys like me who've been here a while and are still learning then feel free to post it here.

I don't know of any attachment link per se but I click on the IMG tab to the left of the QUOTE tab. You need to enter a URL for the pic in question. You can host it for free at somewhere like Image Shack and then paste the url like I mentioned previously.

If you go to advanced post there's an attach files box that you click manage attachments to add an attachment.

Are you sure it's not too big, either file size or dimensions. When you do go to add attachments there's a chart showing how big it can be.

I just do

URLofthepicture

It's really just the manual way of what Doc said.

The url of the picture is just the link to it, whether it be at imageshack or whatever. If you take a picture from off a website you can find the URL by right clicking and copying it from the location section under image properties. (Rather than saving it to your computer and using it as an attachment or rehosting it. Although if the site ever goes down, or the URL is changed, your picture will be too.)

I've tried to embed videos from youtube here before, but was unsucessful. Is that not possible to do here or am I screwing it up on my end?

If a thread has a lot of pages and you don't want to skip a few of them at a time then there's a feature:
Page 1 of 100 1 2 (http://forums.hockeyinformer.com/showthread.php?t=3529&page=2) 3 (http://forums.hockeyinformer.com/showthread.php?t=3529&page=3) 11 (http://forums.hockeyinformer.com/showthread.php?t=3529&page=11) 51 (http://forums.hockeyinformer.com/showthread.php?t=3529&page=51) > (http://forums.hockeyinformer.com/showthread.php?t=3529&page=2) Last » (http://forums.hockeyinformer.com/showthread.php?t=3529&page=100) http://forums.hockeyinformer.com/images/rajmetal/misc/menu_open.gif

next to the "Last >>" link that's an arrow pointing down that if you click on it it can take you to any page that you want.

Haha, just noticed this. Did you know that you can go to the last post in an already viewed thread without scrolling all the way to the bottom? Sometimes I like to go to the end of the post, but if I've already viewed it I had to manually scroll to the bottom. I have just now came to realize that you can click on the >> next to the user's name and it will take you to the last post in the already viewed thread. Just thought I'd share :D

Does anyone know what the middle button (of the 3 at the bottom right of a post) does? When you hover over it, you get "Multi-Quote This Message", but clicking on it just highlights the button. It doesn't seem to do anything. The hyperlink for the button is the same as the regular quote button.

When I first noticed it, I thought it would allow you to have nested quotes when you quote (right now it only quotes the person's response - not anything they quoted), but that doesn't seem to be the case...

What am I missing here?

what you gotta do is this....click that button if you want to quote the message....then find another one to quote click it as well....then when you reply go advanced and make sure you choose to use multi quote

Holy crap that's awesome. Whenever I needed to quote more than 1 person, I would always putz around by ctrl+c, ctrl+v, open up same thread twice, ctrl+c, back to original reply, ctrl+v, etc....such a pain....I'm a retard...:freak:

However, I think it would be nice to have nested quotes. Like if I quoted your response to me, it would include my original post, with you quoting it. I'm guessing this has been brought up before and the response was probably that the posts would just get longer and longer and longer with 10-20 quotes nested into 1. Understandable

However, it would make it a lot easier in some threads (Zang's goalie thread, injury thread, etc.) to sort out who is talking to who when there are about 20 different questions being asked in one thread. Say 4-5 people posted in this thread after you responded, but before I saw it. It takes a bit to find and "follow" the convo between you and me. Being able to simply quote yours and have the others appear would be nice. Is there any middle ground possible? Allow nested quotes, but a max of 3 appear at any time?

yeah.....or just max two quotes I guess.....but it'd still be pretty long unless they are all around 1 sentence long....

does anyone know why with firefox you can't hit alt+s to post your reply. With IE7 you were able to do that. I've just switched to firefox and while it's no a big deal I like the alt+s thing better.

This one goes out to nyrblue2 because he pointed it out. I have known it was there, but never really used it. For discussion threads beyond Fantasy Hockey, just click the " Show your signature" to unmark your sig so that it does become easier to scroll through particular threads. This can also be applied to in the Fantasy Hockey threads: Goalie Rankings and Injury Updates since those get the most replies and you'd like to get to the meat of them as soon as you can.

I appreciate the shoutout, but unfortunately, I think we'll be in the minority of who uses it and who doesn't:

http://forums.hockeyinformer.com/showthread.php?t=42834

No big deal I guess. I'm getting used to seeing the big pointless sigs while we're in the hot girls thread, music threads and such. At the same time, I've gotten so used to unchecking it, I usually do it out of habit, even when I want to show it...

hmm....then maybe an option to make it the default would be good?
